What It’s Like to Be on the Team?
Our competition teams train together much like other youth sports teams.
Rather than dancers selecting individual classes each week, our teams train in structured practice blocks, where dancers work together consistently throughout the season.
During these training blocks, dancers participate in:
• Technique training and warm-up
• Competition choreography and rehearsal
• Strength, flexibility, and skill development
• Team-building activities
• Social-emotional development and confidence building
This structure allows dancers to grow not only technically, but also as teammates and individuals.
Our goal is to create a training environment that supports both strong dancers and confident, resilient young people.
Training & Styles
Competition team dancers are required to train across multiple styles, including:
• Jazz
• Ballet
• Contemporary / Lyrical
• Tap
• Hip-Hop
• Tumbling
We also offer optional classes on additional days for dancers who want more training opportunities.
Placement & Levels
Dancers are placed based on current ability and training needs, not only by age.
Our teams typically train in ability groups (for example Levels 1–2 or Levels 3–4), allowing dancers to learn alongside others at a similar stage of development while still being appropriately challenged.
Within each group, teachers provide adjustments and progressions so that every dancer can continue improving at their own pace.
Placement is determined through auditions and teacher evaluation, ensuring each dancer is placed in an environment where they can grow, feel supported, and build confidence.
Supporting School Dance Programs
At Adagio, we support dancers being involved in school dance teams and performing arts programs.
Our practice schedule is designed to accommodate those commitments as much as possible while still maintaining the consistency needed for team training.
We believe dancers benefit from having multiple opportunities to perform, grow, and be part of their communities.
Our Philosophy
At Adagio, dancers do not need to arrive “advanced.”
What matters most is a willingness to learn, work hard, and grow.
Through consistent training, supportive teachers, and a strong team environment, dancers are able to develop both their technical ability and their confidence.
We are deeply invested in helping each dancer reach their full potential — both as performers and as people.
